My last blog was an Introduction to IBM i System Limits and Maximum Capacities. In that blog, I introduced System Health Services, which allow you to track system limits. System limits tracking support is provided via Db2 PTFs, so be sure to install the latest Db2 Group PTF when you start to explore this capability. The limits tracked vary by release and Db2 Group PTF level.

We all know that IBM i is a very scalable platform. It supports businesses from the very small to the very large. However, as the workload running on an IBM i partition increases and becomes large, knowing the limits of your system becomes increasingly important.

The Work Management team recently released PTF SI42845 for the 7.1 release that changes how IBM i manages jobs that exceed their CPU or storage limits. While introduced with 7.1, this support is in the base operating system of all subsequent release.
